Keeping up with Genshin Impact weapons can be a little overwhelming at times. There’s dozens of swords, spears, and magic books, each with their own unique abilities and rank, but not every weapon is worth your enhancement materials.

Four and five-star weapons are the best weapons in Genshin Impact, even though you’re at the mercy of the game’s gacha system when it comes to obtaining them. Our weapons list guide details each of these weapons, what their special skills are, and how you can make them even stronger.

Understanding Genshin Impact weapons

Each weapon has a base attack stat, a secondary stat of some kind, and a special “Refinement skill,” and naturally, each category is full of its own jargon.

Here’s what each secondary stat term means:

  • Attack: a permanent attack boost
  • Critical damage: a permanent increase to critical hit damage
  • Critical hit: a permanent increase to the weapon’s likelihood of landing a critical hit
  • Elemental recharge: How fast your Elemental Burst meter refills during combat
  • Elemental Mastery: A number determining how much damage your Elemental Reactions deal (when two elements combine on an enemy). The higher the number, the better

Refinement skills are unique effects each weapon has. You can enhance these further through refining the weapon, but don’t confuse that with taking it to the smithy. Refining weapons in Genshin Impact requires you to use a duplicate of that weapon and spend some Mora.

It’s easier to do with three-star weapons and under, since you’ll find those in abundance. Four and five-star weapons are rare as it is, so unless you plan on spending lots of money and testing your luck (which we don’t recommend doing), you’ll probably be working with the base refinement skill for a while.

Fortunately, four- and five-star weapons are strong enough where sticking with the base skill is viable for the entire game.

How to enhance weapons in Genshin Impact

You enhance Genshin Impact weapons similar to how you enhance characters, though obviously with different materials. Weapon levels cap out every 10-20 levels and require an Ascension using materials found mostly in Domains (also a good place for earning Adventure Rank XP).

Once you choose “enhance” from the weapon selection screen, you’ll use Enhancement Ore or other low-ranking weapons to level up weapons in between Ascension phases. Just make sure you don’t accidentally mulch another weapon you want in the process.

Enhancement Ore is plentiful, but you can make more by taking Iron Ore and other minerals to the smithy in Liyue Harbor or Mondstadt.

This screen is also where you’ll refine a weapon, assuming you’ve got a duplicate to use for the process.

Genshin Impact weapons list

We’ve divided our weapon list by weapon type and star rank. Since three-star weapons and under are common and not worth keeping once you get something better.

Note that the values listed here are from each weapon at level 20. They’ll be lower when you first acquire the weapon and, of course, higher when you Ascend them.

Genshin Impact swords

Genshin Impact five-star sword list
Name Attack Stat Refinement Skill
Aquila Favonia 133 Physical damage +15.9% Attack increases by 20%.
After taking damage, regenerate HP equal to 100% attack and deal 200% attack damage to surrounding enemies. Only happens once every 15 seconds
Primordial Jade Cutter 110 Critical hit rate +17% HP increases by 20%. Attack increases by 1.2% of the user's max HP
Skyward Blade 122 Energy recharge +21.2% Critical rate +4%. Using Elemental Burst triggers Skypiercing Might, increasing movement and attack speed by 10% and increasing normal and charged attack by an extra 20% of total attack power. Lasts 12 seconds
Summit Shaper 122 Attack +19.1% Shield strength increases by 20%. Landing hits on opponents increases attack by 4% for eight seconds and stacks five times. If shield is active, attack increases by 100% instead.
Freedom Sworn Sword TBD TBD TBD

The Skyward Sword is easily the best five-star sword, since its secondary stat feeds into the refinement skill and makes it easier to boost your abilities and fire off Elemental Bursts faster than normal.

Genshin Impact four-star sword list
Name Attack Secondary Refinement Skill
Blackcliff Longsword 119 Attack +10.6% Increases attack by 13% for 30 seconds after defeating an enemy. Can stack three times.

Festering Desire 109 Energy recharge +17.7% Increases Elemental Skill damage by 16% and Elemental Skill critical chance by 6%
Iron Sting 109 Elemental Mastery +64 Dealing Elemental damage increases all damage dealt by 6% for six seconds. Stacks twice
Lion's Roar 109 Attack +15.9% Damage to enemies afflicted with Pyro or Electro increased by 20%

Sword of Descension 94 Attack +13.5% Normal and charged attacks have a 50% chance of dealing an additional 200% damage in an AoE attack.
The Alley Flash 128 Elemental Mastery +21 Damage dealt +12%. Effect stops for five seconds after taking damage
The Black Sword 109 Critical rate +10.6% Normal and charged attacks deal +20% damage. 60% of attack value is regenerated as HP after landing a critical hit.
The Flute 109 Attack +15.9% Normal and charged attacks generate Harmonics on hit. Gaining five Harmonics unleashes an AoE attack.

Iron Sting and the Black Sword tie as the best four-star swords. Anything increasing Elemental damage is a good thing, while Black Sword turns your DPS character into a healer if you score a critical hit, which you probably will thanks to its secondary stat.

Genshin Impact claymores

Genshin Impact five-star claymore list
Name Attack Secondary Refinement Skill
Skyward Pride 133 Energy recharge +14.1% Increases all damage by 8%. Using an Elemental Burst, normal, or charged attack creates a vacuum blade that does 80% of attack as damage to opponents along its path. Lasts for 20 seconds or eight vacuum blades.
Song of Broken Pines 145 Physical damage +8% Attack increased by 16%. Hits create a Sigil of Whispers. Four Sigils are consumed to activate the Banner Hymn and increase attack by 20% and attack speed by 12% for 12 seconds.
The Unforged 122 Attack +19.1% Shield strength increases by 20%. Landing hits on opponents increases attack by 4% for eight seconds and stacks five times. If shield is active, attack increases by 100% instead.
Wolf's Gravestone 122 Attack +19.1% Attack +20%. Targeting foes with less than 30% HP increases party attack by 40% for 12 seconds. Only happens once every 30 seconds

Five-star claymores are a bit trickier than other Genshin Impact weapons since it depends on which character you’re using. For tanks such as Noelle, The Unforged and its attack boost every time a shield activates is ideal. DPS wielders would benefit from Skyward Pride and its extra damage.

Genshin Impact four-star claymore list
Name Attack Secondary Refinement Skill

Whiteblind 109 Defense +19.9% Normal and charged attacks increase attack and defense by 6% for six seconds. Stacks four times

The same considerations apply here. Tanks would get the most from The Bell since it increases their ability to withstand damage. Snow-Tombed Starsliver is a good four-star alternative to Skyward Pride, though DPS and tanks would benefit from Prototype Archaic’s random attack boost.

Genshin Impact polearms

Genshin Impact five-star polearm list
Name Attack Secondary Refinement Skill
Primordial Jade Winged-Spear 133 Critical hit rate +8.5% Every 0.3 seconds, attack increases by 3.2% for six seconds. Stacks seven times, and the maximum number of stacks increases total damage by an additional 12%

The Primordial Jade Winged-Spear is simple and effective. In place of fancy gimmicks, you get a reliable attack boost to clear the field.

Genshin Impact four-star polearm list

Royal Spear 119 Attack +10.6% Critical rate increases by 8% every time a hit is landed. Stacks five times, but a critical hit resets the percentage

The Blackcliff Pole is a good standard polearm for any character, though the Dragonspine Spear has a better chance of dealing higher damage. Prototype Starglitter is best if your polearm user relies on Elemental abilities a lot.

Genshin Impact bows

Genshin Impact five-star bow list
Name Attack Secondary Refinement Skill
Amos' Bow 122 Physical damage +19.8% Increases normal attack and aimed attack damage by 12%. After a normal or aimed attack is fired, damage increases by a further 8% every 0.1 seconds the arrow is in the air for up to five times.
Elegy for the End 122 Energy recharge +21.2% Increases Elemental Mastery by 60. Using an Elemental Skill or Burst creates a Sigil of Remembrance. Four Sigils are consumed and create the Farewell Song effect, which increases Elemental Mastery by a further 100 and attack by 20%
Skyward Harp 133 Critical hit rate +8.5% Critical damage +20%. Landing hits has a 60% chance of creating an AoE effect dealing 125% of your physical attack damage

There’s not much to choose from here, but the Elegy for the End stands out as the best five-star bow. Its base attack and secondary complement physical and Elemental characters, and the skill boosts damage output even further, despite taking a while to activate.

Genshin Impact four-star bow list
Name Attack Secondary Refinement Skill
Alley Hunter 110 Attack +10.6% While the character equipped with this weapon is in the party but not on the field, their damage increases by 2% every second up to a max of 20%. When the character is on the field for more than four seconds, the buff decreases by 4% per second.

The Viridescent Hunt 109 Critical hit rate +10.6% Normal and aimed shots have a 50% chance to generate a Cyclone, which will continuously pull in surrounding foes, dealing 40% of attack stat as damage every 0.5 seconds for four seconds
Windblume Ode 109 Elemental Mastery +64 Attack increases by 16% for six seconds after using an Elemental Skill

The Blackcliff Bow and Compound Bow are excellent for DPS characters, especially if you don’t rely on aimed shots often. Windblume Ode is designed for Venti, but works very well with any Elemental-oriented bow user, such as Fischl or Diona.

Genshin Impact five-star catalyst list

Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds 122 Critical rate +12.7% Movement speed increased by 10%. Elemental damage increased by 8% every four seconds. Stacks four times and lasts until character leaves the field

Skyward Atlas 133 Attack +12.7% Increases Elemental damage by 12%. Normal attacks have a 50% chance to make clouds attack enemies for 15 seconds, dealing 160% of your attack as damage. Only happens once every 30 seconds

Like with bows, there’s not much to choose from here. Skyward Atlas is the best of the bunch, with a double bonus of dealing extra damage and making clouds attack your enemies.

Genshin Impact four-star catalyst list
Name Attack Secondary Refinement Skill
Blackcliff Agate 109 Critical damage +21.2% Defeating an enemy increases attack by 12% for 30 seconds. Stacks three times

Frostbearer 109 Attack +15.9% Normal and charged attacks have a 60% chance of forming and dropping an Everfrost Icicle , dealing 80% AoE damage. Enemies affected by Cryo are dealt 200% damage.

Wine and Song 119 Energy recharge +11.8% Using a normal attack decreases the stamina consumption of sprint or alternate sprint by 14% for five seconds. Additionally, using sprint or alternate sprint ability increases attack by 20% for five seconds

Eye of Perception and Frostbearer are good four-star alternatives to Skyward Atlas. Ending up with Solar Pearl or Mappa Mare is a nice situation as well, though. Both increase your Elemental damage, which is the primary kind of damage catalyst-users inflict.

Of course, getting a weapon is only the start. You need the right character to wield it and maybe even a place to relax and take a break for a while.
